[xClientWidth, xClientHeight] giving apparently bogus result in IE8

I have created a test page http://www.sfmta.com/cms/home/testClientWidthHeight.htm which appears to show incorrect results when viewed in IE8.

The results for using the xClientWidth and xClientHeight are both over a hundred pixels too small when viewed on a maximized or non-maximized 1680 x 1200 monitor.

Specifically, if I visit this page in a 1680 x 1250 maximized (with chrome) window, the page claims the client width is 1341 and client height is 642. However, a screen print shows the client width to be 1678 by 804.

I have appropriate results in Firefox and Safari.

Is this a X Library problem or a browser bug?

Re: [xClientWidth, xClientHeight] giving apparently bogus result in IE8

I tried your test page on IE7 (7.0.5730.13) running on my host OS, WinXP-SP3, and on IE8 (8.0.6001.18702) running in a virtual box also with WinXP-SP3. I took screen-shots with Gimp to measure the size for comparison. My monitor is in 1920x1200 mode.

In IE7 the results are correct, altho the width includes the width of the vertical scrollbar "placeholder". maximized: 1916x1002

In IE8 the results are correct. IE8 does not have the vsbar placeholder. maximized: 1916x930

So, I'm not sure what to think. Do we have different versions of IE8? Are our OSs different?

Gee, I'm also on Windows XP SP3. I'm using nVidia's feature to subdivide one's monitors into multiple sub-monitors. But I'll take your result as a random confirmation that the average random setup will give correct results.

Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Chas!

Hmm. I need to test this on a different machine.

Thanks!
